Employment Testing Process

Written Examination
Qualified applicants who accurately complete an application will be offered the opportunity to participate in the written examination.

The questions on the written test are designed to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and abilities you will be required to possess to be considered further in an entry-level firefighter position.

The written test will last approximately 2 hours.

Physical Examination
Applicants receiving a score of 70% or higher on each of the 3 sections of the written examination will be scheduled for the physical ability examination.

The required physical ability examination demonstrates your ability to perform some of the physical tasks that fire fighters have to perform, such as:
  • Carrying, raising and climbing ladders
  • Dragging, carrying, and advancing fire hoses
  • Rescuing victims
Oral Interview
Applicants that pass the physical ability examination may advance to an oral interview.

Eligibility List
A list will be established from the passing applicants. When a position becomes vacant, a candidate will be offered the job, at which time the candidate will be subject to a background check and a comprehensive medical examination.
