COVID-19 WPRF Updates

Program Information

May 14, 2020 Statement:

Heading/Subject:  Tennis/Pickleball Reopened with COVID-19 Guidelines

The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department (WPRF) recognizes that COVID-19 has impacted our community’s ability to participate in tennis and pickle ball activities.  Because these activities do not require direct person to person contact, players can enjoy the many physical and mental benefits practicing social distancing, playing singles and following the guidelines below.

WPRF Guidelines: (Phase 1)

  • Restricted to Singles play only
  • Groups and/or gatherings are not allowed
  • Maintain Physical distancing of 6 feet or more
  • Consider playing with only family members or others who reside in your household
  • Entrance/Exit gates will be locked “open” allowing user to enter and exit without touching surfaces.
  • Court use should be limited to one hour if individuals are waiting to utilize the facility
  • We recommend using hand sanitizer and hand washing after touching court components
  • Avoid touching other balls/equipment that are not yours and identify (mark) your items
    • Wash hands immediately after returning home

We appreciate your compliance with the guidelines.  Failure to follow guidelines can result in loss of facility use.

May 6, 2020 Statement:

Summer Special Event Programs

With the health and safety of our citizens, volunteers, sponsors, and staff top of mind, the City of Waukesha is canceling community special events where large scale public gathering is natural and proper social distancing can not be easily accomplished.  Cancelations of City sponsored special events as of today, Wednesday, May 6, 2020 include:

  • Civic Band Concert Series, June and July
  • Monday Night Movies in the Park, June and July
  • Tribute Tuesday Concert Series, June and July

Plans for the Independence Day celebration are continuing with modifications for social distancing. Additional plans for public interaction and smaller scale events and opportunities for fun are under way as Safer at Home restrictions are adjusting, including a community movie and #WaukeshaUnited activity kits.

Your support and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we work to balance public safety and the need to celebrate and support each other in our community.

In compliance with the Safer at Home Order #12 issued by Governor Evers, we are using the best information available to take proactive steps to help protect the health of our community. We know that outdoor spaces are critical to the mental and physical health of our community, now more than ever. We are doing our best to maintain services with stressed resources.  As to date, the following City of Waukesha outdoor park/recreation facilities have been closed until further notice:

  • All Restrooms
  • Horeb Springs Skatepark

PLEASE NOTE:  City Parks & Trails in general (walking, jogging, biking, hiking, etc.) are still open for your use, enjoyment and wellbeing!

While at the park or on a trail, it is critical to practice social distancing. The CDC recommends a minimum of six feet distance between individuals, and do not congregate in groups of 10 people or more. Park visitors are highly encouraged to bring hand sanitizer with them and practice good hygiene. Older adults, pregnant individuals, people with weakened immune systems, and people with underlying health conditions that are at increased risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19) are encouraged to take extra precautions. Please stay home if you are sick.

By minimizing non-essential contact, we can all help slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community.
