What if I have Flooding in my Basement?

Most basement flooding problems can be prevented by proper home maintenance and it is the responsibility of the homeowner to make sure their home is properly maintained. In order to prevent basement flooding, homeowners should:

  1. Make sure the ground around the home is sloped away from the foundation to ensure water runs away from the basement.
  2. Seal any cracks in and around the foundation.
  3. Maintain proper eaves and downspouts around the home to move rainwater away from the foundation.
  4. Ensure that a proper functioning sump pump is installed.
  5. More serious foundation issues and/or basement problems may require a licensed professional to properly diagnose and correct any problems.
