Gun locks can be picked up at the Waukesha Police Department front counter during business hours.

  • Keep firearms unloaded when not in use
  • Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
  • Keep your finger off the trigger
  • Store ammunition separately from firearms
  • Treat every firearm as if it were loaded

Gun Lock
Old Style Defective Gun Lock
This lock was given out prior to 2007 by the Crime Stoppers program. The Waukesha Police Department was given about 500 locks to disperse.

If You Have a Defective Lock
It has come to our attention that the locks are defective (if you strike the side of the lock it will open up). If you received a gun lock from this program immediately dispose of the lock and replace it.

Characteristics of the Defective Lock
The lock came in a clear plastic tube with "Project Home Safe" on the label. The lock is black and red with the words " Project Home Safe" imprinted on it. The cable, which is attached to the lock, is red in color and the loop extends out about 6 inches.
